Technology Integration

Overview: 

Instructional designers have a responsibility to keep their skills current. It is essential that instructional designers work continuously to acquire and apply new technology skills to instructional design practice. While it may not be feasible to become an expert in every software program available, instructional designers should stay up-to-date on trending software applications and online platforms in order to be able to select the most appropriate tools for completing a particular project.

Competencies:
  • Selects appropriate technology and media for specific instructional objectives.

  • Develops instructional materials using a variety of different media (e.g., print, visuals, CBT, multimedia).

  • Designs instruction for a variety of delivery systems using appropriate media.

  • Uses technology effectively for professional purposes.

  • Maintains knowledge about new technologies and media applications.

  • Applies knowledge of equity, ethics, legal and human issues of computing, and technology applications in general as they relate to individual and societal behaviors.

  • Describes affordances, strengths, and weaknesses of current and emerging instructional technologies.
